The first century of Polk County, Florida, is explored in this reprint of
Century in the Sun
, a history of Polk County originally published in 1961 by the Centennial Committee, plus excerpts from Florida, a Guide to the Southernmost State, a 1939 WPA project.  This heavily illustrated 8 1/2 x 11" booklet is printed
on 60# paper. The 3-color cover is printed on 80# card stock and protected with a vinyl sheet.
The booklet includes
a history of Polk county, and a look at its municipalities -- Fort Meade, Bartow, Lakeland, Winter Haven, Davenport, Haines City, Dundee, Lake Alfred, Auburndale, Lake Wales, Frostproof, Mulberry, and Polk city; Religion and Education; Citrus and Cattle; the Phosphate Industry; Tourism, including Cypress Gardens; Centennial Activities; Polk Today and Tomorrow; and the Centennial Committee with pictures of county commissioners and executive committee members.
Brief bios of a number of pioneers are included:
