The masterclass craftsman of Tosa island have been forging knives ever since the Kamakura period; originating all the way back from 1185 and perfecting their style during the Edo period; from 1603 to 1868.
The blade is forged in a Yanagiba style, making it suitable for filleting fish, able to have long beautiful cuts with its long blade length.
The wood from the handle is made from pakinagi (Japanese whitebark magnolia,
Magnolia obovate
) which is widely used in traditional Japanese crafts. The wood is light, durable, soft to touch and provides good grip even when wet.
