    Description

    Mecklenburg County, North Carolina
    Will Abstracts, 1791 - 1868, Books A-J
    By Herman W. Ferguson
    Tax Lists, 1797, 1798, 1799, 1806, & 1807
    By Ralph B. & Herman W. Ferguson
This comprehensive volume of abstracts of all Mecklenburg County wills from 1791 through 1868 includes 38 original unrecorded wills found only in the state archives.  In addition, Ferguson has listed in the appendix earlier wills from Brent Holcomb's Mecklenburg County, NC, Abstracts of Early Wills, 1763-1790 (1749-1790), referencing the testator, date, and page where they are found in Holcomb's book.  Maps of the county for 1790 and 1860, and sketches of historic Mecklenburg homes are included.
A list of errata discovered in the first printing and James Latta's will, which was omitted, are included as a separate page. 1998, xvi+368 pp.  Indexed.  ISBN 0-9620770-2-X.
Second Printing, 1998.- Prior to the second printing of this book the errors that had been called to the attention of the writer were corrected. This includes the three wills that were omitted in the first edition because they were incomplete in the recorded copies, and three that were overlooked. The first three have been completed from copies of file in the North Carolina Archives, and the remainder from the recorded copies. The writer greatly appreciates the suggestions of his readers who have made these improvements possible.
    PLEASE NOTE:
In the second edition the will abstracts are printed in Times New Roman, a proportionately spaced font but in the same point size as the first edition. This reprinting has resulted in a considerable reduction of the number of pages
    without any deletion of text
. However, since the tax lists are referenced in the index by page number, the page numbers of the first printing are retained in the tax lists to maintain the accuracy of the index.
Thus the will abstracts end at page 190 and the tax lists begin at page 271 as they did in the first printing.
    Outstanding condition.
Covers and pages show no visible wear.
    No missing or damaged pages.
    No underlining or highlighting.
Spiral bound to lay flat for easy reference and scanning.
